SOPHIE IS SUCH A SWEETIE from Kwilty Pleasures

I actually forgot all about this baby quilt!
I made it for a friend who was gonna be a first time Gramma!

I knew Kim (gramma) likes Winnie the Pooh
and just sew happened, I had some in my stash.

This is the Perfect Ten pattern, by Swirly Girl Designs.

This top is my GO-TO baby quilt pattern.
It's simpler than it looks to make
and uses novelty prints sew well.

And the back was pretty simple.
I couldn't believe I had this polka dot print in my stash.
Let alone, enough for backing!
I always like to ...

2020 Mystery Quilt from Kwilty Pleasures

Sometimes I get behind in my blog posts.
Regardless, I try to post interesting projects.
I am glad you are following me
and it is really nice when someone comments.
I don't feel so alone out here!

Sew in catching up.....
The Columbus Modern Quilters had another fun
Mystery Quilt Challenge for 2020.

I selected ALL the fabrics from my stash.
Several FQs in Orange, Mustard
with a White Grunge accent and a gray background.

I always challenge myself to use my stash
and figure out where to put the same colors
of different prints in the design.
You ...

JUST RIGHT! from Kwilty Pleasures

I know its March and this post is about Christmas.
RIGHT?
Really though, its a  post about something important.
 Friendship, UFOs and QUILTS!

This Modern Tree Block quilt has given me grief for a couple years.
NOT because it was hard to make blocks, but because
I couldn't decide the RIGHT way for me, to set the blocks.

For two years these blocks went up and came down
from my design wall several times.
Last November, I decided on this layout.

You ask me, why then? RIGHT?
Because, Shirley, my BFF of 60+ years had been battling breast cancer ...

2020 projects from Kwilty Pleasures

2020 is a year we want to forget.
The world as we knew it...was interrupted with a
pandemic from hell.

I kept my mind and hands busy, to keep my sanity
and made many projects via fabric, yarn and paper.
I am not showing my cards in this post
but I crafted at least 30 made in 2020.
Fabric and Yarn kept me sane and I present
 40 projects for 2020

SANTA NEVER LOOKED SEW GOOD from Kwilty Pleasures

I really love this vintage Santa...its SWELL.
2020 didn't give me much to be happy about...
Sew I have collected the fabrics and the very large applique
and this will be on my radar for 2021.

Many of my quilty friends gave me fabrics and
I ordered some.

I am leaning toward this quilt.
I have the pattern.

But isn't this log cabin amazing?

I like the Scrappy Trip Around the World
but that's a LOT of seams!

But if you know me, you KNOW I love a Churn Dash.

I have some time to consider ...

2020 COLUMBUS MODERN QUILTERS REVEAL from Kwilty Pleasures

My modern quilting group,
The Columbus Modern Quilters
recently had an on-line reveal of our 2020 Mystery Quilt

We received a total of 7 Clues.
The last was the layout of this top.
I grabbed some screen shots.
(photos by quilters, power point by Leigh Morgan)

This is my Mystery Quilt.
My hubby thinks it looks like a Native American design.
I'll go with that....when deciding the name.
I plan to quilt this one in 2021.

Rachel never disappoints with her work.
There were lots of little HTS left over from
one of the blocks...they ended up ...

GENDER NEUTRAL BABY QUILT from Kwilty Pleasures

I had a plan to make this for someone's baby
but found a quilt already made, that was perfect.

Still, I finished the quilt and will hold it for
a future baby.  It has all the makings of a wonderful
gender neutral quilt.  All the fabrics are from my stash.

I decided to make a disappearing 9-patch.
Make a 9-patch block

then the 9-patch disappears
when you cut those blocks into 4ths,
flip them around and sew back together.

I love having custom labels to attach to my quilts.
My name, my business name and the year the quilt ...

BIRD BRAIN or CORONA BRAIN? from Kwilty Pleasures

I am stuck with a CORONA BRAIN stalling
my work with all these fabulous Charley Harper BIRD BRAINS!
The Corona Virus has taken its toll on my Sew-Jo.
Well, all of my creativity, as of late.
I started this queen size quilt last year.
And its in "Limb-o" (pun intended)

I pulled together some of my Charley Harper fabrics
for the Churn Dash block centers.
The gray polka dot for background/
Grunge and Solids for the block framing.

And I found this Churn Dash pattern at a quilt show.
The pinwheels put a "spin" on it!
But as I was ...

MY IRIS QUILT from Kwilty Pleasures

The IRIS quilt top by Erica Jackman,
Kitchen Table Quilting, is done.

I selected Cosmo Cricket, circa 1934 jelly roll
I also had  2 charm packs that will go into the backing.

Cutting was quick and easy

Sewing the units was quick and easy.

Sewing the sashing was easy

Then easy stopped, at least for me.
The layout diagram was weird.
Every row had a different length.
Here it is laid out on my floor

Nothing was quick or easy
about sewing the top together.
I made a few mistakes in the lineup
and had to unsew....I hate when ...

SEWCIAL DISTANCE X 3 from Kwilty Pleasures

The 3rd Sewcial Distance Quilt
Kim Hensley and I have sewn apart/together
is The Iris Quilt by Erica Jackman
@kitchentablequilting

Its a Jelly Roll quilt and sew
one would think quick and easy!

Well let's just talk fabrics for now.
We shopped our stash and I found...
Cosmo Crickets' Circa 1934 Jelly roll
and I found 2 charm pack.
I had the red GRUNGE in my stash.
I used a KONA cream for the sashing.

I also have 2 charm pack of circa 1934
and that will be worked into the backing.

It didn't take long ...

REMEMBER THOSE BAGS??? from Kwilty Pleasures

I finally finished them this summer.
Lots of fun gifts for some lucky recipients.
Most of these patterns are free!

Lined Drawstring Bag
Tutorial by Jeni Baker, In Color Order Blog

 Adorable Llamas

I couldn't pass on GNOME fabric.
This tutorial is by Noodlehead, Wide Open Pouch.

The front and back have different colors
and I switched the zipper out to turquoise.

The One Hour Basket is perfect for
these Llamas dressed in their Holiday Sweaters and scarves.

I did swap out the lining to a black and white.
Not sure why, maybe I misplaced the other option.

Another ...

TAKING A DIVE from Kwilty Pleasures

Second Sewcial Distance Sewing Pattern
with Kim Hensley is....COLOR DIVE
a free pattern by Anna Marie Horner.

I had a lot of Alison Glass scraps that I received
last you via #getyourquiltywishgranted on Instagram.

This was my first Rainbow designed quilt.
All pieces are 5" squares with a few HST
to transition from one color to the next.

I selected a fun all over Edge 2 Edge design
for Coleen to longarm quilt.
It's a good size also, 64" x 76"

This is Coleen...she's just awesome!

The backing is also Allison Glass and a
bit of ...

THE PERRY COUNTY FLAMINGO from Kwilty Pleasures

September 2019 I was asked to do a trunk show for
The Perry County Sewcial Club.
A new quilt guild located in Perry County, OH

I knew the founding gals and said I would love to.
Being new and no budget, I offered to exchange my show
for fabrics.   If each person could bring me a scrap of
a pink or coral flower...I would make
Laura Heine's Pinkerton Flamingo with those fabrics.

I received over 40 pieces of fabric!

The process begins by fusing and cutting all the fabric pieces
to be designed into the collage.

I drew ...

A CHRISTMAS PLAIDISH QUILT from Kwilty Pleasures

2020 has been a year of confusion,
exhaustion, anger, frustration and
the drive for me to stay busy!

I have to create to keep my sanity!
I want to share with you a quilt that is a free pattern
from Erica Taylor Jackman aka @kitchentablequilting.

This pattern is Plaidish 2
and I have pulled a lot of Christmas fabrics...
well red, green and white fabrics.
Many are Christmas prints I pulled from
stash and scraps.

Here is a link to download
Plaidish 2 over on Erica's blog.
It seems more like a check than a plaid to me.
Should ...

MODERN CHRISTMAS TREE BLOCKS from Kwilty Pleasures

I have FINALLY finished a Christmas quilt top
using the Modern Tree Blocks by Amy Smart.
I made most of the blocks, 2 years ago.

I used Amy's free Tutorial over on her blog,
Diary of a Quilter and
you can see it here.
The tutorial offers directions for two sizes
of the blocks.  I made the bigger size.

Its sew easy and I love the wonky look of the
trees, cut them all the same, or different.
Stack two fabrics and slice, following her instructions.
I love wonky and different!

Then I put the blocks on the ...

FLAG QUILT from Kwilty Pleasures

Before July has slipped by...I wanted to share
my finished Stars and Stripes quilt,
 pattern by Thimbleblossoms.

I started this in 2019, making the blocks at a quilt retreat.
It is quick and easy but it sat in a pile of  "to quilt" projects.
My friend, Coleen Rains, offered to quilt this one
'on the house' as she learned about how to use
 her new longarm machine.

We played with a wave design
and decided a long soft wave was perfect.
Like a flag, gently waving in the wind.

Binding was blue/white and perfect to frame this ...

SEWCIAL DISTANCE SEWING - PLAID-ISH from Kwilty Pleasures

I had just returned from Florida in April
and Ohio was on a "safer at home" order.

Kim Hensley suggested, since we can't get
together and sew...let's "sewcial distance" and together
make a quilt!

I had seen this free pattern by Erica at Kitchen Table Quilting
called Plaid-ish....we both loved it and the fun began.
This picture is Erica's Plaid-ish quilt.

Plaid-ish Scrap Quilt Tutorial

We setup a schedule and checked each other at the
end of the week for our goal.

It was "scrappy" and we BOTH have lots of scraps.
We needed 3 color values...
Medium...Low ...

DRAGGING BAGS AROUND! from Kwilty Pleasures

I have a lot of bags ready to sew.
My feet hurt from dragging them around
instead of sewing them.

I pulled the fabrics over a year ago.
I cut them out, cut and ironed on interfacing or batting.
Made drawstrings or matched zippers.

And yet..2 months later, they are NOT finished.
Maybe they will be my "Christmas in July"
sewing projects!

The Gnomes and Fa-la-la-la-lamas
are on the table!
